a message from Coach Maxon...

When I first started at Morningside in 1999, the AD at the time asked me how I would measure success in this brand-new program over time. I told her that I would ultimately like to see HUGE annual alumni weekends where players and their families came back every few years to reconnect with teammates, play games with our current players, and relive the memories they made here years ago.

Seeing so many of you and your growing families at these alumni events has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my 27 years (so far) at Morningside.

Do you remember going to Maine? Salt Lake City? Seattle? How about winning the GPAC, 6 a.m. preseason workouts, or walking the goals to and from Ruegger Field?

We still do so many of those same things. The trips may not be quite as glamorous, and we don't have to go to Ruegger anymore, but the foundation you laid during your years here has grown into a program of more than 100 players that is still as unique, special, and united as when you were here.

We still run both programs as one. We travel together, support each other, and team-build together through the Bacon Creek cookout, spring soccer-tennis tournament, annual graduation party, and more. We still have the big Christmas gift exchange and banquet together every year.

I am not asking you for money. But if you ever feel the desire to give, this is the place to do it. We want the current generation of players to have the same experiences you had when you were here. We will keep finding a way to make that happen, but we would happily take all the help we can get.

Either way, each of you has helped make this program what it is today, and you have made my life as a soccer coach truly extraordinary.
